My Family’s Thoughts on Same-Sex Marriage

I literally wanted to cry today.

My dad, who I thought resented me for liking other girls told me something. He is for same-sex marriage. I wasn’t expecting it, mainly because he’s old school, Mexican and Catholic, a triad of tradition. So basically, I thought he would be against it all. But he told me something that I always believe (it was just so nice to hear him say it, though)

“Jesus never rejected anybody, so why can’t two people of the same sex get married?”

He told me that he hasn’t told my mother yet — surprisingly, she’s the one against same-sex marriage. I learned to respect her opinions, since after all, she didn’t kick me out of the house after coming out.

All in all, today was one of those rare, wonderful days.

Just Watched the News

Here in California, they just had a court ruling that Prop. 8 violate California’s state constitution. As happy as I am, it hurts to hear my mom say that it shouldn’t happen. I agree that if they decide to change the law, they should just re-vote, but to hear my mom say over and over again that same sex couple’s can marry hurts. I’m just glad that my laptop screen is hiding my face.
